August Monthly Meeting

Shuswap Spinners and Weavers
Minutes
August 8, 2019

Held at Sharon Wickstrom-Eliason’s shop in Armstrong. 14 people in attendance.

IPE Report: Sharon gave a brief report as the IPE has not been forthcoming with information.
We will have a place, however we do not know how big or where.
A schedule sign -up sheet was circulated and if you have a certain time you want to work please contact Sherry as soon as possible.  Morning shift- 9:30a.m -4:00p.m. Afternoon shift 3:30- 10:00p.m.
We need 3 people per shift at least.
Sharon is away on her honeymoon to NFLD.   She will be back in time for the set -up on Tuesday night starting at 5:30p.m.
Louise will bring sheets for table covers just in case we need them for set up.
Jacquie asked that everyone bring 2 copies of their inventory – 1 for the sales desk and 1 for jacquie to check off each night.
Use 3 initials to avoid confusion  such as SMI, or HAM but these are already in use.
Please have your inventory in numerical order.

Discussed things to bring from guild room.   Sheets to cover display tables, banner, demo loom, carder, manikins, display items, heads, etc.  Cash drawer tower with white sales bags, receipt books, square, directions, float and cash box.
Gabriele will check with the Rec centre about when they are closed and when we can pick up our stuff.

Sharon has made a tall thin draw box and sherry and Louise will make draw tickets.  Sharon has a tea towel that the guild will buy for $25.00 as per a previous motion about draw prizes.

Althea is making small pass out cards about our Spin Out and the Xmas Sale so we can pass them out at both fairs.  Sherry will print more 3 fold membership pamphlets.

Judith Reports: She has passed the ANWG Rep position to Anne Patterson.  Judith and her husband have sold their place and are moving to Penticton Aug 22nd.
She also passed the Scholarship info book over to Pres. Sherry.  Sara and Jill are on the committee and we need one more person who is interested.   Contact Sherry.
Jill W will be looking after the xmas sale planning and Althea is taking care of making 8 x 11” small posters, soon.

Salmon Arm Fair report:  Elvi passed around a sign up sheet for the Salmon Arm Fair.
Reported that Lis and Elvi will go to fair grounds on Wed Sept 4th and make sure there are tables and clean them.  A8 entries have to be delivered on Wed afternoon and evening til 7:00 p.m.
Thursday Sept 5th starting at 2:00 pm  Will be set -up of our area in the Artisan building.
Lis is looking after the Sheep to Shawl competition and will find a person to time the competition and inform the Judge as she is on the team.

Our team for sheep to shawl- Carole B Weaver, Sharon Wickstrom- Eliason Plier,  Spinners-Marianne, Lynn, Bea, Lis, Sonja, and 1 publicity person.

Carole B is to confirm with Ann N which loom she is going to use.

Lis will email guild members and see who could billet out of town  competitors if needed and then contact the out of town teams and see who needs to billet.
Much discussion was held about having a cordoned off area for the competition with information people to talk to the public and explain what was going on.  Possible a mike and someone to talk on and off so that the public doesn’t bother spinners and weavers during the competition. Discussed the possibility of having the competition more in the center of the building just for the Sat and then our display does not need to be moved and rearranged.

Enderby Art Festival report:   It rained 3times with 2 sunny spells,  Louise had 1 tarp but we really need to have 2 tarps to cover the 3 - 10 x10 booth spaces adequately and prevent drips between the tents which made some items wet.
MOTION: Moved by Louise S that the guild buy a 15 x 20 or 24” WHITE tarp for approx 29.99 plus taxes.
Seconded by Sharon          Voted -All in favor.

Library Report by Gabriele.  She has had a number of books donated, so she will go thru them and add some to our library and duplicates will be for sale at the Spin Out.
She also had borrowed a book - Rep, Rip, Reps by Luciene Coifman from the public Library and felt it would be a good one for our library.   Sherry will find it and order it as Gabriele is traveling soon.

Gabriele also checked about meeting times for the Fall.  The room 1 & @ are not available to us in the afternoons for meetings however the mornings are open, so for our Day meetings we will have the meetings in the morning and Fibres Unlimited in the afternoon in the new enlarged Rm 3 next to our guild room.

We are having a NEW meeting on September 16th Monday 1- 3:30 p.m. in Rm 3 beside our guild room to continue planning the Spin Out and report on the Fairs.  No Fibres Unlimited that day. So far 1 vendor has paid for the S|pin Out

October will be an evening meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:30

14 present. Lis came later.
