Mother's Day Celebration at O'Keefe Ranch in Vernon, B.C.

The Monashee Weavers and Spinners participated in the Mother's Day Celebration
held at the O'Keefe ranch with a variety of crafts for sale.  They also had
demonstrations of spinning, weaving and needle felting.  It was nice to see
some of the Shuswap Spinners and Weavers stop by to visit the booth.

May Show and Tell

Lis has been busy making tables runners,
one for a friend ...  now there are 5!

5 Table Runners in many colours!

Felted Coffee Cozy
For one of those coffee bodums
made by Jennifer Rodgers

Lis found this cute "Top That" kniting kit while on holidays
in the U.S.A. She just couldn't resit buying it.  It is so cute knit up!

Ann has been weaving more blankets!
This is her white mohair blanket in plain weave.

This has been well brushed with a scrub brush,
no wonder it is so soft.

A scarf woven by Ann.
Wool and silk handspun warp,
silk handspun weft.

Hand spun and woven.

Ann's Tea Towels

Jill's creations. She found this tiny "sample loom" to practice on
while on holidays in the UK. She made the little bag to carry it
in.  The patch work bag is called "Wonder Bag" by India Flint.
Of course you can not miss the cotton she dyed from the woad
plant she grew herself!  Woad is also the name of a blue dye
produced from the leaves of the plant.

Handspun and Plyed by Noelle

Jacquie picked up a few projects while on her trip to Ireland.
This is her Glenties Cowl she knit up after visiting a shop called,
"This is Knit" in Dublin.

Jacquie took a 9 night Irish Knitting Tour of Donegal & Causeway Coast
in Ireland. Sounds like a fun and very interesting tour,
be sure to ask her more about her adventure.

A couple of cute coasters she found on her trip too!

This sample of Aran stitches was done at a mini-workshop
Jacquie took during her trip by Edel McBride of Knitfield.

Another project Jacquie found. Sionann  Shawl- An Irish Knit Odyssey
using 100% Merino and beads. This shawl is named after a River Goddess.

Carole has been real busy weaving tea towels.
Love the different patterns all in blue and white.

OLD BUSINESS

CAROLE TO READ OUT LOUD

ANWG GRANT     A big Thank You to Carmen who volunteered to take on
the beginning process on coming up with some ideas that we could use
to apply for this Grant. Louise also worked with her and between them a
proposal was presented to our Guild at the last meeting, for us to decide
together, on what we would like to accomplish.  After much discussion,
we have decided to go ahead with 2 to 3 separate, one day Workshops in
the Crafts of Spinning, Weaving and Felting. We appreciate that Louise
has taken this project on as leader and with the expertise of Jacquie who
put together the first Grant Proposal Application along with a Financial
Balance Sheet, the final Grant Application has been sent in. We hope to
hear from the Committee by the end of May whether we will receive a
Grant.

24 Apr

Hi Bea,

Our 4-H group (Armstrong Multi-club) will be hosting a rally day in Armstrong on May 26, 2018.  Members from the Vernon, Lumby, Armstrong and Enderby area come to learn how to judge various projects.  One of the projects they will be judging this year is 4 llama fleeces and their suitability for hand spinning into yarn.  We could use your participation in a couple of areas if you had someone willing :)  One would be to judge the fleeces and explain the members your choice.  The other would be to demonstrate some handspinning with the winning fleece.  There is a wool project for members that I am considering sometime in the next couple of years.  We have a little down time during the day and I think the members might find a demonstration interesting.  Maybe they will take it up!

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Spring is a busy time of year
While some of us were at home getting our gardens ready for planting,
others attended an informative sharing time on natural dying,
here others from our guild attended the
William's Lake Annual "Spin In".

Always a fun time at spin ins!

Gwen Martinuk attended a Natural Dyeing class at Maiwa Textile school in Vancouver this past March.  Here Gwen is sharing with our guild members
some of the things she learned.  So interesting and very informative.  If you
would like to know more about Maiwa School of Textiles
