Spin In at Sharon's
 Show and Tell Pictures

People brought their skeins in today for Ann N. to
take home and add information about them, they will
then be displayed at the IPE and Salmon Arm Fall Fair.

Lynn A. had a lot of skeins of wool and explanations of
how they were done and why and the time it took.

This was a felting demo that Michelle F. was working on for the
felted Sheep to Shawl demonstration at the Salmon Arm Fall Fair.

Some silk hankies Wendy L. had dyed and then spun into a skein.

Wendy's skein of mohair and a toque and scarf that she had used it in.

Lynn finished a sweater with a lot of cables.

These are Wendy's skeins, one has beads and two others.

Barb A. had just cut off a woven tencel scarf using a cream
and a beige brown color in an undulating 4 shaft twill
from Marguerite Davison's book.

Very attractive using the neutrals.

Shuswap Spinners and Weavers Guild
Meeting Minutes
August 15th, 2018
Meeting held at Sharon Wickstrom’s Studio

Called meeting to order at 10:25 am.   By President Sherry Barker

Caller  Meeting to order at 10:25 am.  16 members present- Mona B, Sherry B, Barb A,
Barb P, Michele F, Sonja G, Carole B, Gabriele C, Wendy L, Sara H,
Sharon W, Louise S, Bea J, Jacquie H, Lynn A, Jenny V.

Sherry Barker showed members the new Membership 3 fold form.  It will be printed on
different colored paper for each Fair and for the spinning nights in SA at the OK Library.
Then we will be able to trace where people found the information to join our Guild.

Jackie H showed an iPhone that her niece has donated to the guild.  It is now set up with
Thea’s help for debit cards, credit cards and TAP Capability with a guild square for all
our sales.  A step by step instruction sheet is being formulated and tested before any
sales.

A thank-you note will be sent to Julie Schafer for the donation of the iPhone.

Sherry B explained what many members have been suggesting about setting up a Guild
second account that can be used for e-transfers as well as cash and cheques for deposit.
By having this account it will cut down on the incoming work for the Treasurer. At the
end of the Events, an e-transfer from this account along with a financial back up will be
sent to the Treasurer for a separate entry in our Monthly Financial Report to the Guild.

Sherry has volunteered to be the Registration Clerk for the Spin Out and the 3
Workshops, collecting the monies along with the e-transfers and producing a financial
balance sheet for each Event, using this new account for this purpose only. The names
of Members on this account are Noelle Cox, Ann Nikmo and Sherry Barker.

After more discussion by members

MOTION:
Sara Holbrook moved.     Sharon Wickstrom 2nd

“That the guild will open a second account, at the up-town SASCU Credit Union for
e-transfers and various other monies pertaining to our Spin Out & Workshops.”

Vote: Carried - all in favour.

Sherry thanked Gabriele C for spending 5 days doing the library inventory.  There are
a lot of pamphlets, duplicates, etc that should be sorted. Then offered to members first
and then taken to the spin out for sale.

MOTION:
Carole Berube moved.  Gabriele Clark 2nd

“That Gabriele, Sherry and Louise S will go through the library inventory and decide
what we should keep and what is duplicated or unnecessary and set those aside for
disposal by various means.”
Vote: Carried - all in favour

Sherry thanked Ann Nikmo and her husband for Equipment room cleanup and
organization and making carder boxes and sorting out pieces for each box and
necessary accompanying equipment for the spinning wheels, etc.

MOTION:
Sharon W moved. Carole B 2nd

“That Ann N, Sherry and Sara make an equipment inventory and then decide what
equipment we should keep and what is duplicated or unnecessary and set aside for
disposal by various means.

Louise read out an email from Ann about the SAFF entries closing Aug 25th
And that SAFF needs volunteers for the registration blitz on Aug 23 and 24 1p.m.-7p.m.
and Aug 25 10a.m. to 3:p.m.  Contact the SAFF office if you can volunteer your help
on any of these days.

Also consider joining our longest thread fun spin in held on Sunday Sept 9.   No
competition this year.

Sherry collected skeins for the SAFF skein display. And some finished articles made
from the skeins.   Ann N is going to make readable labels for all the skeins for SAFF.
We also have a donated Indian Head Spinner and would like some articles such as
toques, mitts, vests, sweaters made from Cowichan style wool to put on display with
the Spinner at the fair.

MOTION:
Bea Johnson moved, Lynn Anderson 2nd,

Michele Forsythe mentioned that she is not receiving emails even though her email
address is correctly listed.  If anyone else is having this problem of not receiving emails
please let Louise S know and also if your email address changes.   Please also empty
your mailboxes so you can receive emails.

Sharon Wickstrom reported all that she knows about the I.P.E.

- we have day passes for people and weekly parking passes, which we need to return to
Sharon`s house at the end of each day`s shift.
- We are in the same building the Horticulture Building, however we are in the front
half in the center section.
- this means we will have 3 sides open to the public at all times- no walls.
- we have the same number of tables - not sure if they will be skirted
- Tuesday night is set-up- Sharon will let us know what time to come.
- Someone in SA will need to arrange to pick up all the props, banner, etc and transport
them to the IPE grounds on Tues.
- We should have tablecloths in case there are no skirts.  Need the cover up sheets for
sure.
- We decided not to have a raffle as we will have enough to watch without having to
watch that.
- We will have a 20`x30` space, do not talk to other vendors about price as they have to
pay and we do not, we demonstrate.
- Sharon will contact Elvi and see about transporting stuff. Sharon will send out sign up
sheets and ask for volunteers as we will need 3 or 4 people per shift due to the new
position.  Only 16 members were present today for the meeting.
- we will back on 1 side next to the Seventh Day Adventist Health group.

Sign up sheets for both fairs were passed around, but still many blank spaces so contact
Sharon soon to pick the shift/s that you want.  Shifts are
9:30am to 4:00p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 10:00p.m.  Please car pool from Sharon’s as
parking passes are limited.   Mona also offered her place to park if you want to walk
from her place.

Meeting adjourned at 12:30

Show and tell was small but interesting
.
Lynn  A - had a lot of skeins of wool and explanations of how they were done and why
and the time it took.  She also had a finished sweater with a lot of cables front and back.

Wendy L had skeins for the display - some silk hankies she had dyed and then a skein
of mohair and a toque and scarf that she had used it in. and a beaded skein and two
others.

Barb A had just cut off a woven tencel scarf  using a cream and a beige brown color in
an undulating 4 shaft twill from Marguerite Davison’s book.  Very attractive using the
neutrals.
Carole B had found some plastic tablecloths that we can use on our demo tables as they
are easy to clean off.  Gave them to Sherry for the fairs.
