New SoulFibre Studio/Gallery Opening this Saturday!

Hi Fibre Friends!   Please drop by Melissa's new studio open house on Saturday March 22.  Please feel free to bring any knitting, spinning or fibre related project to work on if you desire.  There will be beverages provided and some light snacks.  Please pack a lunch if you would like to stay and spin or whatnot.  Bring a friend too!

A great time was had by all - thank you so much Clare and Rob for hosting the Fleece & Fibre Festival at Harmonious Homestead! Looking forward to next year already!

I will putting on a ‘Wet felting course’ out of the Courtyard Gallery in Enderby on Sunday March 30th between 1 and 5 PM
Registrants will learn the basics of wet felting through the creation of a wet felted 3 D bowl.  
The cost will be $80 including materials.   

They can register in person at the Courtyard Gallery or just email me gwen851@shaw.ca to hold a place. I will putting on a ‘Wet felting course’ out of the Courtyard Gallery in Enderby on Sunday March 30th

Check out Rick Mercer Tonight he's Waulking in Newfoundland!

Jenny has reported that on Rick Mercer there is a clip about Waulking in Newfoundland tonight Tuesday, March 4th, 2014!!

She has a satellite and it airs at 5:30 tonight on Global  and her channel is 323.  CBC carries Rick Mercer at 8 p.m. and maybe this clip is near the end of the show on it as well.

March Meeting Minutes

March 3 Meeting Agenda.  Shuswap Spinners and Weavers

10 a.m - Program by Gudrun on pick-up weaving.  Gudrun demonstrated, with Gabriele as her student how to change colours and use the pick-up stick to do a design.  The loom is in the guild room for others to try this technique.

Reports:
     Treasurer; ( memberships, name tags and equipment rental),   
     (Kool-Aid for dyeing at S.A. Fair, office supplies, tissue paper, name tags ANWG 
      membership) Noelle moved her report be accepted,  
      seconded Sara, carried.

      History; newspaper clippings given to Wendy
      Study Groups/Workshops:  Just about the end of the colour study group and will get together today and then next week will be the last week.  Everyone has been having fun and strayed from the original idea.  Reported by Rosalie.

Old business:
Blanket Project: Nikki has all the wool here.  We will be warping the loom in the near future. We are working to have the project completed by July 13. Many thanks to Nikki and her mom for doing four bags of skeins into balls!!!  It took them an entire day.

Gabriele has volunteered to coordinate the Heritage Quilt Show event on June 21. 

Additions to Sheep to Shawl team.  Nikki and Ann have indicated interest.  We have fleece washed and some carded ready to go. Sara is thinking about helping and there is an invitation to guild members to join the team.  We have interest  from a Kamloops' person to join the team on Fair Day if another spinner is needed.  Please contact Ann and let her know if you are interested (mnikmo@shaw.ca)

New Business:
Ply magazine subscription:  $54 per year approximately and comes out 4 times a year.  Anne moved we subscribe to Ply Magazine, seconded by Sara, carried.

Arts Council: Paint the Town Artist's Studio at the Gallery in August.  Aug 8 to Aug 30.  Goal is to engage the public in art.  Discussion regarding the event.  Sara will contact Tracy and get more details.

Thank You to everyone for their support during Heritage Week at Piccadilly Mall.  So nice to have so many members support this activity.  Lots of interest shown in Anne's 110 year old sock machine.  Newspaper clippings were given to Wendy to put in our history book.

Spin-ins/knit -ins.  Mar 15 at Harmonious Homestead and Ewe beginning at 10.  Let Clare know if you are coming.

Glenda suggests we have a Trade-In at the June Potluck.  People to bring items and put their names in the bucket for each item brought.  Sara and Glenda to detail the parameters and give them to us for the April meeting.

Show and Tell - many beautiful creations from yarn to felted vest to knitted articles.


Fibres Unlimited followed in the afternoon.  An opportunity to visit the library, work on projects, visit and set up the knitting machine as well as warp the loom for Tea towels.  Just need to tie the threads to the beam, now.  The knitting machine is partially assembled and on its stand.  The instruction booklet does not seem to cover the details of putting it together.

The next meeting is April 7 at 7 p.m.  with Mona and Anne supplying goodies, thanks!
