R. J. Haney Heritage Week at the Piccadilly Mall
February 18 - 23, 2019

Just a few things going on at the mall this week.
Love when the kids find spinning and weaving fascinating!

Did you know it was our 40th Anniversary this year?  Here
Ann is working on a colour gamp she's warped up.  Most
members are making a shopping bag for our
40th Anniversary.

Elvi Spinning

For Sale..... Elvi's tea towels.

Noelle, Marg and Loanna.
It's always fun conversation when we all get together.

Day two at Heritage Week.
Lots of interest from the passerby's, we were kept busy
answering questions about weaving and spinning most of the day.

Elvi working on her colour gamp.

Here Liz is combing wool, getting ready to make her
"bumps" or "nests" as we call them, for spinning.

What are those two up to?  Of course Liz jut got back from
Palm Springs ..... probably catching up on her adventure!

Loanna is working on a tapestry weaving project.

Bea was washing alpaca fibre while at the mall.

Washed and ready to roll it up in the towel
to get all of the water out.

Up front is fibre skirted and ready to wash,
in the back ... fibre on a drying rack!

Day three at Heritage week....
Lily pads and knitted cobblestones, in support of the
"Little Lake Project", Salmon Arm Art Gallery
An ongoing project our members are involved in.
Last year we made Lily pads during Heritage week.
This year we worked on knitted cobblestones.

You can stop by the Art Gallery to find out
more about their "Little Lake Project"
Pick up some yarn and a pattern and get involved.

Lily Pads and Felted Cobblestones.

For more information about the Little Lake Project
go to the Salmon Arm Art Gallery web site
or click on their link on the right hand
side of our blog.

Day four at Heritage week....
Showing items for sale.  So much interest in spinning and weaving
of all ages and levels of skills.  It is so neat when people passing by
stop to ask questions, some even remember their family member
spinning or weaving.  Even knitting socks,
just like the one Anne  is using here!

Darlene, Liz, Sherry and Loanna.

Anne demonstrating her sock knitting machine!
Day five ...  Friday was our last day attending Heritage week.
It was a shorter day as the square dancers needed some
of our floor space.  Just the same, it has been a great week.
Thank you to all our volunteers that participated in
demonstrating  our wonderful craft!

Today we had a couple of looms left out for people to look
at.  The Dorothy table loom ... and

an inkle loom.

Loanna knitted these wonderful bookmark displayed in
a card and of course her cutie baby booties!

Anne was busy with her sock knitting machine.  Such great
interest for people walking by, they just have to stop and watch!

Spin In at Ann's home on February 13th

We had a great day of spinning and knitting at Ann's on Wednesday.
It was such a lovely sunny day sitting in the dining room visiting and
enjoying the sun coming in through the window during our lunch.
Thank you Ann for that tasty homemade tomato soup and
your baking treats too!

I just had to take a picture of the barn.
It looked so lovely sitting in the sunshine.

February Show and Tell

Sharon is doing a needle felting workshop for a group of
friends (Silver Star Quilters). These are some of her projects
she is using for samples at her workshop.
Oh.... notice the ring? Congratulations Sharon
on your recent engagement!
This was a blanket Lois made and the cat got into it and made
a few holes.  She then turned it into a shrug with beautiful
embellishments on it! Darlene is our model.
Thank you Darlene for modelling the shrug!
This is Lois's homespun thick yarn and dyed. Knit into this
poncho using size 36 needles to start down to a size 13 needles
to finish.  It is a Steven B pattern off of ravelry.
This is Ann's "Fat Marmot" yarn she used to knit
up this triangle shawl, worsted weight.  I just love
the colours!
Ann's baby alpaca and mohair kid silk knitted hat.
It was so soft and squishy. The colour was fabulous!

You know Gudie likes to recycle? These are her "weird
slippers" as she calls them, that her mom knit in 1985!
With a little felt on the inside and a knitted sweater for
the soles Gudie says it's like walking on a cloud!

This is what Gudie called scribble knitting, three rows thin
yarn, one row thick yarn made into a squishy beautiful shawl!

Gudie's coloured yarn knitted on the bias and stitched
together to make a loop.  Gudie used a small hair clip to
shape the scarf.
Wool yarn for the Little Lake Project.  Stop by the Art Gallery
to pick up some yarn to knit up your cobblestones for this amazing

project!  Guidie has been putting wool balls together for this project.

Lynne has a new book she would like
to share with you all.... The
International Weaver by Laura Fry.

Maureen's sister does this type of art and
Maureen received this beautiful jacket!
This small jacket is deconstructed then reconstructed, sewn,
felted
then Eco dyed.  The stitching is called rebel stitch or
slow stitch
which is a technique done all by hand.

Maureen will be visiting her sister soon, guess
what they will be doing?  What fun!
Loanna's baby sweaters.... Here's a little boys sweater!
She is stocking up for her summer sales!

Love these sweaters, they are all so colourful and very cute!
Loanna made this shawl for her friend who is having surgery.
She calls it her "Hug Shawl".  Sending hugs to her friend!

Louise's shawl is 80% acrylic and 20% wool.  This is a
bulky knit lace "Leaves shawl".

Alpaca blankets.  This one will be a throw for Louise's
husbands lazy boy chair!

One is a commercial weft and the other blanket is a
handspun weft.

Another of Loanna's baby sweaters!
Althea loves her new craft.  Rug hooking,
by Wooly Trails.  She has classes available
at her store for those that are interested!
