Painted Warp Workshop
On July 8th, 15 ladies from the Shuswap Spinners and Weavers guild, ladies from Merritt, Kamloops and Kelowna spent the day at Sharon Wickstrom's studio in Armstrong learning about painting warps. They learned a bit of basic colour and dye procedures. Then they were given a silk warp (protein fibre) and Lanaset/Telana dyes in the morning and a bamboo warp (cellulose fibre) and Procion dyes in the afternoon. They started with 3 basic colours and could mix them to create other colours.

It was very interesting to see how 15 people had chosen to colour their warps. After steaming the silk warps over lunch time they rinsed and hung the warps out to dry.

The bamboo warps were rolled up in saran wrap and had to age overnight and would be a surprise the next morning when they opened them at home.

There was great interest and well attended! |
Everyone had a great time, some were wild painters and others very studious. I'm sure all the scarves will turn out wonderful when woven and every one will be different!

Beautiful Colours! |
